The ecological growth of search in the past few years has seen a sudden awakening and acknowledgement of the power and importance of search engine marketing.
Common Web Design Elements that can impact a sites’ search engine compatibility include:

The META keywords Tag
The Alt IMG Attribute
Text Links

1 ) The Title Element -
Title elements are one of the most important factors that search engines look at when it comes to determining the Relevancy of a Web Page against a search query. The text we use in the title tag is one of the most important thing in Determining the Page Rank.
It is extremely important for websites to have different keywords and phrases relating to the site content included within the title tag on each page. The title tag must include the logical Searchable terms for your website along with the name . Order Keyword phrases effectively within the title tag . Generally placing a keyword phrase at the start of the title tag allows it to be seen better by the search engines and it is best to place company name or the name of the website to the end of your title tag. The title tags on each page should be unique. Not only do unique title tags make the site more descriptive and navigable to a person they help search engines answers queries more accurately and allow more penetration of your site pages in their databases.
2 ) The META Description Element –
Meta Description tags are deigned to describe the content of web pages. Search Engine Robots generally gather this information when Indexing Web Sites and often use it when referencing web pages in the search listings. While not all search engines continue to utilize the Meta Description Tag, a majority of search engines rely on the content of this tag. Often the content of the Meta Description Tag is the text used to describe a site when the link is displayed in the search engine results.
Optimizing META Description Tags for search engines ensures that a site has a better chance of ranking highly for particular words or phrases that you would expect potential visitors to type in to search engines to find particular content.
Example : < Meta name=”description” content=” Exchange Links with Other Sites”>
The META tags are used to provide extra information about a web page. There was once a time where a good search engine ranking could be achieved by simply changing the value of the META tags. However these days are long gone. Nowadays the META Tags are decreasing in importance in the eyes of the search engines who are using more sophisticated methods of ranking pages (namely Link Popularity, optimized anchor text).
3 ) The Meta Keywords Tags –
They are not utilized by search engines to the extent it used to be, the META Keywords Tag is still worth including within a site’s HTML code to provide those search engines that do support it with as much information as possible about site content so they can index it correctly.
The current lack of support for the META keywords Tag by many search engines is most likely due to increasing spam abuse by webmasters who thought the keyword tag was a good place to stuff hundreds of keywords in the hope of achieving a higher search ranking, thereby spamming the search engines with useless , non relevant data. People can misspell certain keyphrases that you may be optimizing for so it is common to place these misspellings into the Keywords META tag. This allows you to rank in search engine results for misspellings without having to represent them on the actual content of your page.
4 ) The ALT image Attribute -
Most Search engines cannot index graphics or images, they can index the Text Descriptions these tags provide. Alt image attributes can contribute to a site’s relevancy for particular search queries.
5 ) Keyword Rich Body Text –
For a Search engine to find a site relevant for a particular search query, It MUST find the keywords used in that search query somewhere in that site. The easiest way to ensure this is to include logical keywords and phrases within the visible text on web pages.
6 ) Text Links
The Number of sites linking to a given site is a very important factor in the ranking algorithms of many search engines these days, particularly Google.
